Rihanna was born in Saint Michael, Barbados and was raised in the island. She auditioned for Evan Rogers, an American record producer, who asked her to record demo tapes in the United States. Following her signing with Def Jam, in 2005 the singer quickly became famous with the release of her first two studio albums: Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006). The albums inspired by Caribbean music, and made it to the top ten of the US Billboard 200 Chart. The third album by Rihanna, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) included elements of dance-pop and established her status as a sex icon in the world of music. The number one single "Umbrella" earned Rihanna her first Grammy Award and catapulted her into the spotlight. The albums produced a number of chart-topping singles, including "Rude Boy", "Only Girl (In the World)", "What's My Name? ", "S&M","We Found Love, "Where Have You Been” and "Diamonds". Anti (2016), her eighth studio album was her first album since she left Def Jam. It was her second US number one album , and featured the chart-topping single "Work". Rihanna has worked closely with a variety of artists throughout her music career. Rihanna has sold more than 250,000,000 records in the world and is the second-highest-selling female musician in the music industry. She has had 14 top-ten hits with 31 top-ten singles in the US in addition to 30 top-10 entries in the UK. She has been awarded nine Grammy Awards, thirteen American Music Awards (including Icon Award) and 12 Billboard Music Awards and six Guinness World Records. She also received the NAACP's President's Award. Time listed her as one of the top 100 influential people in the world in 2012, 2018.
